In 2016, he released his debut studio album, King of Memphis, which peaked at number 49 on the Billboard 200 chart. He was featured on O.T. Genasis’s hit single “Cut It”, which peaked at number 35 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Early Life
Young Dolph was born Adolf Robert Thornton Jr. on July 27, 1985, in the rough streets of Illinois, Chicago. His family had moved to Memphis, Tennessee when was just two years old. Since his parents were drug addicts, he along with his two siblings were raised by his grandmother. He attended Hamilton High School and in the year 2020 he donated about $25,000 to the school he passed out of. He had a difficult childhood and rap was the place for him to vent out his frustrations. He never attended a university but pursued his interest in music after he graduated from high school.
Personal Life
Young Dolph never hid his personal life from the outside world. He often collaborated with his cousin and fellow rapper Key Glock. Dolph was always open about his long-term partner Mia Jaye, with whom he shared two children. The first child was born in 2014 and the second one was born in 2017. Although nobody knows how the pair met reports claim that they have been together since 2010 and lived together although they never got married. Early in 2020, Dolph posted on Instagram how he was thinking of quitting music so that he could spend all the time with his children.
Matter
While there were unsuccessful attempts to shoot him outside a retail store in LA earlier in September 2017, after he had a fight with his fellow rapper from Memphis, Yo Gotti. The news of his death on November 17, left the entire music world shocked. The rapper was shot fatally in front of a cookie store in his hometown in Memphis. He was buying cookies for his mother at about 1 pm when a gunman drove up and shot him through the window. He was 36 years old and is survived by his long-term partner and two children.
Death
Young Dolph was the target of gunfire when several dozen and some reports say up to 100 rounds were fired in Charlotte, North Carolina. He spent two weeks in the hospital recovering from his wounds. Some speculated that the attack was connected to a rivalry with rapper Yo Gotti. Yo Gotti was named as a person of interest but was soon cleared. Young Dolph chose the name Bulletproof for his second album based on the incident. Tragically, Young Dolph was murdered on November 17, 2021 in a shooting incident in Memphis, Tennessee.

Career
Young Dolph was deeply attached to his grandmother. After her death in 2008, he was left devastated and used rap as a way to vent his feelings. He released his first mixtape Paper Route Campaign which was received well by the audience. That encouraged him to dive deeper into the world of music and he went on to release many other mixtapes such as A time 2 Kill, Blue Magic, and Felix Brothers. In 2015, he was featured in the single Cut It by O.T Genesis which was ranked at 35th position in the Billboard Hot 100.
This motivated him to do even better and in the year 2016, he released his debut album King of Memphis which was received well by both his audience and critics. This reached 49th position on the Billboard 200. In April 2017, he released his next album Bulletproof which reached 36th position on the US Billboard 200. His fifth album “Role Model” was ranked at 25th position on the Billboard 200, which is the highest one as far as his works are concerned. His recent mixtapes include Gelato.
