Personal Life

Yo Gotti was born in Memphis, Tennessee on 19 May 1981. He will be 40 years old by 2022. His family was middle-class. His father was from Zimbabwe and used to be a trainer at the gym. While his mother Geraldine Mims is of South African descent, he was raised there. Yo Gotti was married for a time to Lakeisha Mims, but they divorced after having two children. He also shared three children with Jammie Moses. Gotti was in second grade when his family, including his parents were arrested. This was a difficult time in his life. He drank alcohol, smoked, and stole in his youth. As he grew up, he discovered his love for music and many of his vices. Mario Mims is his real name, but he is more well-known as Yo Gotti or Lil Yo. He began listening to local artists such as Gangsta Blac and 8Ball & MJG. At the age 14 he began rapping and performing under the name Lil Yo.

Gotti released his first mixtape, ‘Youngsta’s On A Come Up’ in 1996. It was produced by the crime lord. With the 2000 release of From Da Dope Game 2 Da Rap Game, which was his first release as Yo Gotti, he gained a lot more fans. He signed a record contract with TVT and released many albums, including “Da Rap Game,” “Self-Explanatory,” and “Life.”

Gotti signed with RCA on January 10, 2012. His debut studio album, “Live From The Kitchen”, was released by Gotti. The album reached number 12 on the Billboard Hot 200, and was ranked number 4 on both U.S R&B and Rap Songs charts. Yo Gotti established his own label, CMG (Collective Music Group) after the album was released.

He announced in 2013 that he and CMG had signed an Epic Records distribution agreement. He then released I Am, his seventh studio album. This album was his most-charting, reaching number seven on Billboard’s Hot 200.

The album features tracks such as “Cold Blood”, featuring J. Cole and Canei, and “Act Right”, featuring Young Jeezy (and YG). Gotti’s tenth studio album, “Untrapped”, was released on 31 January 2020. He still collaborated with Travis Scott, Gucci Mane and Big Sean for the song “Champions” in 2016.
