Jeffrey Bruce Atkins, better known by his stage name Ja Rule, is an American rapper and actor. Born and raised in New York City, he debuted in 1999 with Venni Vetti Vecci and its lead single “Holla Holla”. During the 2000s, Ja Rule was signed to Irv Gotti’s Murder Inc. Records, formerly known as The Inc.

Early Life
Ja Rule was born Jeffrey Bruce Atkins in Queens, New York on February 29, 1976. He was raised in the neighborhood of Hollis by Debra and William Atkins. Ja Rule’s grandparents were Jehovah’s Witnesses, and due to his parents working a lot, he spent a lot of time with his grandparents and started practicing the religion also. He left the religion at age 12 and began selling drugs in Hollis. He got into a lot of fights in school due to his small size. Ja Rule did not graduate but earned his GED in 2012.
Personal Life
Jeffrey Bruce Atkins and Aisha Atkins had known each other since they were in high school when Aisha Atkins was 14 years old. The couple began dating soon after and married in 2001. Ja Rule and Aisha have three children: Brittany, Jeffrey Jr., and Jordan. In February 2021, Ja Rule finished an online course at Harvard Business School and tweeted a photo of his certificate of completion.

Career
In 1994 Ja Rule started his music career by becoming part of the group Cash Money Click along with Chris Black and O-1. Around the same time, the rapper decided to change his real name to the stage name “Ja Rule”. Along with the group, he began producing independent tracks and worked with a number of other artists. In 1994 Cash Money Click dropped their debut son Get Tha Fortune which helped them to grab the attention of TVT records, with whom they signed. Their deal with TVT records didn’t last long and the group disbanded from the label shortly after the group’s member Chris Black was arrested.
