Derek Ryan Smith was born in Bloomington, Minnesota, on March 10, 1987. She spent a bit of time with his father in Long Beach, California after his parents were divorced. He migrated often from the age of five to ten since his mother had to relocate for various professions. Bud Gaugh, the drummer of Sublime, lived next door to Smith’s father and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Will Smith began designing apparel for bands in his local New Jersey pop-punk scene while he was in the eighth school. His mother pushed him to go to concerts and to approach the traveling band members if they wanted to remain the night. Smith as well as other local bands and musicians in the scene became more interested in fashion and emo culture in the following years, eventually becoming part of the scene subculture. Thomas Jefferson High School was where he finished his elementary education.
