Richard Colson Baker was born on the 22nd April of 1990, in Houston, Texas. His parents both served as missionaries as growing older, which meant that the Bakers often traveled with their family. When he was a kid the family spent time being in Germany, Egypt, and numerous other countries across the world. Furthermore, Baker lived in many different US states. In the end, he and his father settled in Denver following the departure of his mother from the family.

In his teen years, Baker was bullied and began to fight back with words. Then, he fell love with rap and began working in his music. After his father decided to leave him to join his company, the Army In Kuwait, Baker lived in the basement of his neighbor and began playing around with drugs. It was at this point when he released the first of his mixtapes, Stamp of Approval. Baker was able to stop attending school, which led his father to move Baker on a trip to Kuwait to live in Kuwait.

After finishing high school, after returning back to his home in the States, Baker convinced an manager of the MC to assist him in launching his career. At the time Baker chose to use his stage title “Machine Gun Kelly” as reference to his fast-paced singing style. MGK began performing in local venues, and later performed on Harlem’s Apollo Theater. He also performed in MTV2’s Sucker Freestyle. Then, he released his second mixtape, 100 words and running. While MGK was getting more attention at the time however, he struggled financially. He was exiled from the home of his father. He then became a dad himself and was employed at Chipotle to earn a living.

MGK took a huge step forward with the release of”Alice in Wonderland,” his first single “Alice in Wonderland.” The track was awarded numerous accolades and helped increase his popularity prior to when he released his upcoming mixtape Lace Up. One track featured a dedication to the Cleveland Cavaliers, and it was played in their home stadium during home games. After this success, MGK collaborated with Juicy J on the track “Inhale.” In the year 2011, MGK was approached by Sean Combs, who signed his contract with the company Bad Boy Records.

The year 2012 was when MGK got his chance to launch his first studio album, named Lace Up. The album was a mixtape that featured songs like “Invincible” and “Wild Boy,” and also featured artists like Tech N9ne, Twista, and DMX. The year before, he teamed up with several artists like Pusha T, and Meek Mill to record an album called Black Flag. After a long delay, MGK then released his second album, General Admission in 2015.

In 2016 MGK joined forces with Camila Cabello to record the smash hit song “Bad Things.” As of 2018, the MGK fight with Eminem was at a boil. A few years earlier, MGK had called Eminem’s 16-year-old daughter “hot” in a tweet. Eminem did not realize the tweet until after one year had passed and prompted him to make an infamous diss track, which targeted MGK. The dispute raged on for a long time, Eminem eventually banned MGK from his website radio station. A MGK track that was among his most well-known Eminem songs of diss was in 2018’s “Rap Devil”.

In the year 2019, MGK has released the album Hotel Diablo which was his 4th studio album. The album featured the singles “I Think I’m Okay” and “Glass House,” and it debuted at the number 5 spot at the top of the charts. In the same year, he declared that his upcoming album, Tickets to my Downfall was an album together with Travis Barker scheduled for release in 2020.
