Early Life

Liz Truss was born as Mary Elizabeth Truss in Oxford, England on 26 July 1975 to Priscilla Mary Truss and John Kenneth. She used to be known by her middle name from her early age. Her mother Priscilla Mary Truss was a member of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, a teacher, and a nurse, while her father is a Mathematics professor at the University of Leeds. When Truss was just 4 years old her family settled in Paisley, Renfrewshire, Scotland where she attended West Primary School. Further, she moved to Roundhay School. She further lived in Canada for a year. She had interest in social issues including homelessness from her early age. She later studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Merton College, Oxford and finished her graduation in the year 1996. Liz Truss was quite active in Liberal Democrats and was also the president of Oxford University Liberal Democrats. She also served as a member of the national executive committee of Liberal Democrat Youth and Students (LDYS). She finally joined the Conservative Party in the year 1996.

Liz Truss was a part of Shell from 1996 to 2000. She later qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA) in the year 1999. Later, in the year 2000 she got a job in Cable & Wireless. She later became the director of Reform after losing her first two elections. She has also co-authored Fit for Purpose, The Value of Mathematics, Back To Black: Budget 2009 Paper, A New Level among many others.
