Early Life:

Lil Durk was born on the 19th of October 1992, in Chicago Illinois, and grew up in the rough and tough neighborhood of Englewood on Chicago’s South Side. His real name is Durk D. Banks, well known by his celebrated name Lil Durk. Growing up in those streets is about as bad as it gets, like his father Dontay Banks spent a ton of time in and out of prison while Durk was a child. When he was just seven months old his father was arrested and locked up. Due to financial crises, his mother worked as a nurse.

The rapper grew up alongside his mom, two sisters, and one brother named D Thang. Durk would later famously say that his father had been arrested with the 6 bricks of crack cocaine on him worth around $8 million. In one of his interviews with a magazine, Durk recalled that there was not even enough food in their home when he was in his teens.

They lived in a nice home and they had everything but when Durk’s father Dontay was arrested, he was sentenced to life in prison as a result. Dontay’s wife and his young family had to downsize immediately and move into Durk’s grandma’s house where 10 people lived in a three-bedroom home.

Aside from that, Durk took an interest in basketball hoping that a future in the sport could be a way off the streets, but his height had never really caught up with his talent or his desire. Troubles:

While Durk was a child his father spent a lot of time in and out of jail, eventually receiving a life sentence for his role as the Ringleader in a Crack Cocaine Operation that was broken up by the Chicago Police. He later stated that his father Dontay was arrested with an $8 million bricked on him. Throughout Durk’s career, he has arguably buried more close friends than almost any other rapper.

The losses begin to pile up for Durk, in 2013 when his friend La Capone was shot to death while exiting a recording studio. Only one year later his cousin McArthur Swindle (part of the OFT collective) was murdered as well.

Then in 2015, Durk’s manager known as Chino Dolla was shot and killed after a meeting with former Chicago Bulls player Joakim Noah in which the two were said to be discussing ironically enough anti-violence initiatives. In 2011, Lil Durk took his passion more seriously and started collaborating with French Montana and Chief Keef’s promoted label called Glo Gang. However he was never signed into the record and due to that, Durk decided to create his own name and fame in the music industry.
