Early Life
Buster Welch was born on 23 May 1928 in the American state of Texas. He was raised by his grandparents since he lost his mother just a few months after he was born. His father left him and remarried. Buster never enjoyed schools and therefore used to skip classes to learn how to ride broncs. At the age of 13, he permanently quit school and started working for a large herd of cattle. He started working for various ranches such as Proctor, pitchfork ranch, and Long X. Since he left school at the age of 13, he has had no formal education.
Personal Life
Buster Welch was married to Sheila Welch who was also a cutting horse trainer who had taken part in various competitions and won various championships. Sheila Welch passed away in 2014 at the age of 76 due to age-related issues. The couple has four children together from the marriage. Buster Welch has been in the highlights now after he is been featured in a series called Yellowstone where he plays in own role by doing a cameo.
Career
Buster Welch started his career as a horse cutter at the age of 18. Buster’s first competition was on Chickaska Mike, a cutting horse he has purchased for $125. Under his training, Mike became a world champion in 1956. He even went on to win the world championship with various other horses including Marion’s Girl.
In 1960 Buster trained Jessie Jack, and the duo went on to win the world championship again. He also received the National Spur award in 2012, Charles goodnight award, Western Horseman award in 2006, and many more. He also worked as the director for the NCHA. He has also been inducted in various halls of fame such as the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame and many others.
