Aaron Nesmith’s real name is Aaron Joshua Nesmith. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina to Bernard and Ernie Nesmith. He started playing basketball at Porter-Gaud School in the fifth grade. As a high school senior, he averaged 21 points and 4.5 rebounds per game and was named the South Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year.

He was also a three-time SCISA Class 3A Player of the Year by the time he graduated from high school. He was a 4-star recruit with a national rank of #64 as well as #12 as a Shooting guard. He went on to attend Vanderbilt University, where he continued his basketball career.

College Career

As a freshman at Vanderbilt, Nesmith averaged 11 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. On November 6, 2019, he made his sophomore season debut, scoring 25 points, including seven three-pointers, in a victory over Southeast Missouri State.

He played in 14 games in total in his sophomore year, in which he averaged 23 points and 4.9 rebounds, with a career-high of 34 points. He declared for the 2020 NBA draft after his sophomore year.


Nesmith was the 14th overall pick by the Boston Celtics in the 2020 NBA draft. On November 24, 2020, he signed a 4-year, $16.5 million deal with the team. During the COVID protocols, Nesmith played an important role in keeping the Celtics in the league through his hustle and winning attitude. On April 28, 2021, Nesmith set many career-highs in a win over the Charlotte Hornets, including 15 points, 9 rebounds, three steals, and three blocks. His game remained consistent throughout the season. He played in the 2021 NBA Summer League for Boston Celtics.
